KIPNUK -- A 6-year-old Kipnuk boy drowned Tuesday after he fell through the ice
on a frozen pond, Alaska State Troopers said.
Jeremy Fox was with several friends playing on the small pond in the evening when
the ice caved in under him. The other children ran for help. Gabe Gunlik, 42, went
into the water to try to save Fox, troopers said.
The boy was taken to Bethel and declared dead.
Kipnuk, population 700, is in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, 85 miles southwest of Bethel.
